Providing LASIK/PRK Solutions

The United States Military now recognizes that in a combat situation, glasses and contacts are simply not very functional and can even be very dangerous. Shofner Vision Center  embraces those who serve in the military and has provided LASIK (or PRK) for many Pilots, Soldiers, and even Snipers. Any active duty serviceman or servicewoman unable to obtain qualified LASIK (or PRK) from the Military prior to deployment to a combat zone can receive their LASIK at no cost from Shofner Vision Center. We also have special LASIK programs for Wounded Warriors providing free LASIK for any Serviceman or Servicewoman who has lost a limb in combat.  We also offer extremely attractive prices for Veterans, Reservists, and Active Duty Serviceman and Women and their dependents.   Please see below for more details about qualifying for these important services. Special Pricing for Military.

Military Policy for LASIK/PRK

Each branch of the US Military now has its own policy for Vision Correction Surgery using both LASIK and/or PRK (PRK differs from LASIK only in the way the cornea is exposed to the Laser.  A flap is created with LASIK, while PRK removes the epithelial skin covering the cornea).  Indeed, most branches of the Military even pay for LASIK (or PRK) prior to sending their warriors into harms way.  Members of our Armed Forces find that long hours in harsh climates with dirt, dust, and debris from explosive devices make contact lenses and glasses inappropriate and even dangerous.

A summary of the current policies for various branches follows.  These policies change, so each individual must do their homework and get prior approval for their LASIK.  If you are contemplating Military Service, be sure you understand what is permitted by the Service Branch you are interested in prior to having LASIK.

Did you know that US Navy pilots are permitted to land aircraft carrier just after 1 week of having LASIK surgery?
